The teeth can be flawless and the case still looks wrong if the gums read as flat pink plastic. On full-arch zirconia and hybrid restorations, the gingiva is a large, highly visible surface, so it has a lot of say in whether the restoration looks natural. The CGI Gum Stain Collection was made for that job.

The CGI Gum Stain Collection

Natural gingiva has no single color. It is pale and slightly opaque over the attached gingiva, deeper and redder toward the vestibule, and it shifts in hue around the papillae and over the root eminences. Getting that look means building color in layers, and that takes a palette with enough range to work with.

The collection has 12 gum stains. They run from soft, light pinks to deep reds and warm browns, so technicians can match a wide range of patients and tissue types:

How the palette works together

Blush and Orchid are the light pinks, for the attached gingiva and the areas near the cervical margin. Guava adds warmth in the middle tones. Carmine, Cranberry and Pomegranate build the saturated reds toward the vestibule and between the teeth, and Blackberry deepens the darkest shadow areas. Tangerine, Sunset, Squash, Chestnut and Coffee are the warm and brown modifiers. Use them to suggest vascularity, to add depth, or to match patients with more pigmented tissue.

Fluorescence matters more than many people expect. Natural teeth fluoresce under UV light, including the blacklight in a club and some kinds of indoor lighting. A restoration without fluorescence can look gray or dead in those settings. A fluorescent glaze helps a zirconia case look like a natural tooth under any light the patient walks into.
